I was so thrilled to see more contemporary teen and kids fiction than in years’ past. There’s nothing I love more than books that talk about real and relevant issues through relatable characters. Another trend we saw in publishing is adult books being adapted for a younger audience. We loved the variety of options – from quick, fun fantasy reads to authors addressing serious real-world issues and these are just some of our favorites from 2014.

The popularity of the Hunger Games series and John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars have adults reading YA books more than ever. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is no exception to this crossover trend. Already in development for a film, this contemporary fiction novel is the story of a teenage girl who has survived a horrible accident she can’t remember. A mystery with a big twist, Cadence harbors a deep secret but is determined to uncover the truth while risking losing the people that mean the most.
